We met Dominique during one of our pop up events in Edinburgh and her positivity was radiating! She would love for us to share about her body type – a plus size woman with a medical device – as she knows it can be quite nerving to sign up. The nerves quickly turned into excitement and feeling empowered, read below about Dominique’s experience

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us Dominique! You met Amelia during our pop up studio in Edinburgh, could you please tell us why you wished to create a sculpture of this moment in your life?

Being a mama was a life long dream for me and I wanted to embrace this opportunity given to me.

I’m plus size and was quite nervous to sign up as my body has changed so much but I felt that this will be an everlasting reminder of how incredible our bodies are. I am going to be a mum and I have been fortunate enough to carry my son.

How did you prepare for your session?

A few days before I read through the guidance that was sent and prepared myself for how I was going to get there (I’m autistic and this really helps calm me).

On the day I had a nice shower, tied my hair up, had some yummy breakfast and made my way to the studio. In the end you are going to be nude so I tried not to overthink it- there is no judgement if you go make up free or you can’t reach to shave your legs!

How did you decide on the poses you tried during the session?

Amelia took me through the examples of sculptures which was really inspiring. I was keen to have my insulin pump showing on the sculpture (I’m a type one diabetic) so we tried a few poses and scans to see if it could capture it.

I had previously looked at your Instagram and website to see if there were any ideas that really took my fancy too.

How was it for you to do the posing?

I was surprised at how easy and quick the whole process was! Amelia really put me at ease and I chose a natural pose so it was more comfortable.

I am super impressed by the pregnant people who did more complex poses- I would have been a sweaty wreck!

How was it to see yourself in a 3D image?

Incredibly empowering. I felt so beautiful and loved seeing all the angles of my body. I was so proud of myself for carrying my baby.

Could you describe how you experienced the posing session?

The session was very relaxing, chilled and low key. Talking with Amelia felt like talking with an old friend. I was a little worried it may be awkward but quite the opposite!

How did you feel after the session?

I felt beautiful. I strutted out of the studio with my head held high and immediately called my partner to tell him all about it!

Anything else you wish to add?

Don’t be afraid to celebrate that incredible body you have and the beautiful baby you are cooking!

Book the session. You won’t regret it!
